Georgia Tech’s Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) works to enhance research experiences for undergraduates and to encourage undergraduates to participate in research. UROP defines research as a search or discovery of new information.  It’s an adventure into solving real world problems. Research is not always in laboratory and scientific settings. New discoveries in literature, social sciences, architecture, and business are also exciting avenues of learning. Here at Georgia Tech, there are research opportunities in every major.  Interdisciplinary and international opportunities are also available.

Students can participate in undergraduate research for course credit or pay, part time or full time. In addition to the monetary benefits, research increases creativity and critical thinking, develops  communication skills (written and oral), and enhances the ability to learn independently and work collaboratively with others in teams.  Having research experience is critical when applying for graduate and professional schools and is impressive to prospective employers too.  Getting involved in research affords you the opportunity to present at professional conferences and even author a paper for publication! So find a faculty member whose interests match yours and start doing research today.
