Description of Student's Research
My research includes the emergence of botanical gardens as healing spaces and how nature is viewed as medicinal therapy. Specifically, I am researching what aspect of botanical gardens has healing powers. I am also looking at the relationship between women and nature as many literary texts center on women in scenes of nature. Individuals with mental illnesses were sometimes attracted to gardens. Ultimately I will be creating a database with my research mentor by compiling publications dealing with botanical gardens and conservatories and the relationship these spaces have with women and medicine.
